Mel Ramos was a figurative painter, specializing in female nudes, whose work incorporates elements of realism and and a heavy dose of fantasy. Wayne Thiebaud was a mentor and friend whom he studied under in the 1950's. Like Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol, Mel Ramos drew inspiration from comic book superheroes and heroines as well as from iconic mass media advertising found in the print magazines and billboards of the twentieth century.
