Attrib. Duncan Phyfe Federal Diminutive Mahogany Sideboard, C.1810, mahogany solids and veneers with cherry doors and poplar secondary, hardware likely later, center bay form of boxed form, reed carved legs with carved clawed animal paw feet. Provenance: Per receipt, From the Collection of Benjamin and Cora Ginsburg, the piece was acquired in 1966 from O.R. Gilbert Auction, Stamford,Ct.. The sideboard was sold to Andy Warhol c.1974-75 for the East 66th Street townhouse. During mid 80's it was passed along to Fred Hughes and remained with a furniture restorer during the time of both Hughes and the restorers death.Retail receipt available upon request, Jan.2008 Sale price $25,000. Note: backboard in inscription of original owner "?? Osborn,Vineland,N.J."-a founding colonial family since 1744, The interior backboard ink inscription concerning restoration 1910-1930 by Merle Winn of Sheffield, Massachusetts Attrib.
