[i-vi; 1-]3-199[; i-iii]. 3 full-page illustrations by Joe Mugnaini. (Book-block toned [as usual]). Paperback: original thin card wrappers incorporating an illustration by Mugnaini (slight rubbing to extremities [see images]). Provenance: Al Lastovica (owned from new: Al joined the ‘Ballantyne Books Science Fiction Preview Club’ in the Fall of 1953 and was sent this work as the first of his monthly selections).
First edition of the paperback issue of Ray Bradbury’s masterpiece: this was the first book that 15-year-old Al received after joining the Ballantine Books ‘Science Fiction Preview Club’. He had learnt of the club, and this work, whilst attending the ‘Eleventh World Science Fiction Convention’ in Philadelphia in September 1953 (about six weeks before the publication of the present work) – they were advertised in the Philcon official program.
