Edmund DULAC. – Robert Louis STEVENSON. Treasure Island. London: Ernest Benn, Ltd, 1927. Quarto (9 3/8 x 7 ¼ in; 238 x 183mm). Pp[i-]v-[xiv], 15-255[-256]. Small square adhesive blue ‘Stevenson / Copyright’ adhesive stamp stuck to verso of half-title (as called for?), 12 colored plates, uncolored head and tail-pieces and occasional illustrations, all after Edmund Dulac. Brown half calf over cloth-covered boards by Birdsall of London & Northampton, England, spine gilt, marbled endpapers, top edge of the book-block gilded (light rubbing to extremities [see images]).
Dulac's watercolour illustrations for Treasure Island are described by Hughey as his "most careful and superb painting", and Dulac himself considered them his best work.
