This is a finely made pottery vessel in a lidded shape referencing the bronze dui of earlier dynasties. The surface shows bright red, ochre, and white pigments in bands of geometric designs separated by incised rings. The design and form are typical of the period. There is root markings, surface wear, and pigment loss expected of a buried piece of this age. Han Dynasty (206 BCE - 220 CE). Purchased at Anthony J. Allen's Antiques, NZ, 2006. Published in "Allen's Authentication of Ancient Chinese Ceramics", 2006, pg. 190 and featured on the cover.
