About this Lot
Description

“A Novel about the First Woman Presidential Candidate”.

Marjorie Damsey WILSON. The Dark Mare. Garden City, N.Y.: Doubleday & Company, Inc., 1952. Octavo (8 ¼ x 5 1/2in; 209 x 140mm). Pp. [1-]9-317[-318]. (Toned.) Original grey cloth, spine blocked in dark green, dust-jacket. Provenance: Philip Johnson & Carmen Maldonaldo de Johnson (author’s presentation inscription, dated September 1964)

[with:]  Marjorie Damsey WILSON. A 3pp. typed letter signed to ‘Dear Philip [Johnson], dated ‘5/3/75’ , from New York, offering writing advice, and giving family news.

Set on election day, in ‘195-‘, this sounds to have been quite prescient: ‘all over the United States voters are crowding the polls to cast their ballots for or against the first woman candidate for the presidency, Miriam Hall Bradley’: first edition, author’s presentation inscription with a related letter.
