[Afro-Americana].

"Good Luck" Marriage Certificate. Chicago: P. P. & F. Co., 1910.

Unbound. Color lithograph broadside, printed offset in black and violet on white stock. Measuring approximately 20 by 16 inches. Edgeworn, with small closed tears, creases, publisher's mark at bottom right partially obscured. Slightly age toned. Unbacked. Clean, bright. About Very Good overall.

Attractive nuptial lithograph stamped by Peoples Portrait & Frame Co., designed for sales agents and retailers catering to Chicago's Afro-American trade. Featuring a ceremonial profile of couple and minister above a certificate of marriage to be completed in manuscript for home display. Artist unidentified (to this cataloger, likely Otto Scheible).

This design (minus the P. P. & F. Co. stamp) is also found in Consolidated Portrait & Frame Co.'s Annual Catalogue No. 25 of the period. It opens with a brief, racist "self-defense"—"We caution our patrons to accept no compromise, but to buy from the mother company. Our cuts, designs and language have been and are being copied by every 'Jim Crow' concern whose office is in his hat and whose responsibility is no greater than that of a Comanche Indian..." An implicit mystery with some interest.

Scarce. OCLC locates none.
