Joseph SPITHOVER (publisher of photographs, active 1850s-1870s) and another unknown Roman photographer. [Two photographic studies of Roman architectural gems.] Rome: Spithover [and another, both probably 1860s]. 2 lightly albuminized photographs (7 3/8 x 9 1/2in; 187 x 242mm. and smaller), each laid onto original thin card mount. Condition: see images. Provenance: Annie C. Clarke (removed from a portfolio, part of a larger collection made by Annie C. Clarke during her tour of Italy, many of the images in the portfolio have her ownership inscription on the verso of the mounts).
1.J. SPITHOVER. The Arch of Constantine. Numbered ‘24’ in the negative, ‘Jos. Spithover / Roma” blindstamp to mount (12 x 18in; 305 x 458mm), pencilled note lower right of mount ‘Arch of Constantine Rome’.
2.[Unknown photographer]. The Temple of Vesta. Mount (13 ¼ x 19 3/4in; 350 x 502mm), pencilled note lower right verso of mount ‘Temple of Vesta Rome”, ownership signature lower left ‘Annie C. Clarke’.
