Alan Lind Bain and Linda Miller Bain were connoisseurs of art and champions of community, whose passion for collecting became a lifelong pursuit intertwined with their professional and personal endeavors. Linda Miller Bain, with her refined taste nurtured in her early life by family and cultivated through her education and Alan Lind Bain, whose appreciation for art was more visceral and was further ignited by a chance encounter with the artist William Thomson's captivating work, embarked on a journey to curate a collection that would reflect their shared aesthetic and values.
In 1970, Alan Lind Bain in partnership with his wife, Linda, co-founded World-Wide Business Centres, Inc. with Alan serving as VP and manager of WWBC's International Network. This entrepreneurial endeavor not only fueled their global business pursuits but also provided avenues for investing in their art collection and supporting local artists. In correspondence with an associate Alan shared “One of the design elements of World-Wide's decor which both my late wife and I felt was exceedingly important was for the company's visitors, guests and clients alike to be greeted with and benefit from original works of art hanging on the walls in not only the public areas of the company but in the private client offices as well. We chose art which would intrigue, captivate as well as provide a sense of 'home' or belonging."
Their passion for art also extended beyond acquisition; it became a shared commitment to their community. Linda Miller Bains's contributions included being a founding member of the American Associates of the Royal Academy Trust (now Royal Academy America) and serving as the 19th President of the New York Junior League. Alan Lind Bain's efforts through WWBC helped nurture many entrepreneurial endeavors, including Michael Bloomberg's successful launch of Bloomberg LLP.
Alan Lind Bain and Linda Miller Bain's collection served as a testament to their unwavering dedication to art, community, and their passion and partnership.
