Thomas COX. Magna Britannia et Hibernia, Antiqua & Nova. No. 45, Nottinghamshire. [London]: printed by E. and R. Nutt and sold by T. Cox at the corner of Swithin’s Alley, Cornhill, 1724. First edition (pp. [iv], 208). Quarto (21 cm) in contemporary quarter leather over marbled paper, folding map of Nottinghamshire by R [obert]. Morden. Cox was less the author of this volume (Volume IV in the series of six comprising descriptions of the counties) than a compiler or editor who worked from all the ‘best sources’ to produce a geographical description, together with the ecclesiastical, civil, natural, and literary history of each of the counties. Bookplate of John Bunn Clifton (fl. 1816). Stains to upper corner of first few pages. Otherwise quite a good copy of a scarce title in the series.
