This monumental vase by Lajos Mack has been attracting significant attention in our Holiday Sale! Mack was a pivotal figure in Hungarian ceramic art and instrumental in shaping modern ceramics during the early 20th century. Drawing from Hungary's rich ceramic traditions, particularly in historic centers like Pécs and Herend, Mack revitalized the craft by moving beyond functional ware to emphasize artistic expression. His work bridged traditional Hungarian techniques with modern design sensibilities, influenced by the Hungarian Applied Arts movement, Art Nouveau, and Arts and Crafts ideals. Renowned for harmonizing functionality with aesthetic refinement, he gained international recognition and continues to inspire generations of ceramic artists with his innovation and craftsmanship.
This Tiffany Studios Azalea Table Lamp captures the essence of Art Nouveau with its intricate stained-glass shade depicting vibrant azalea blossoms, created using Tiffany’s signature copper foil technique. Must-See Exhibits in the Neighborhood
Annie Leibovitz: Stream of Consciousness
Until January 11th at Hauser and Wirth
This exhibition offers a profound exploration of the celebrated photographer's last two decades of work. Through landscapes, still lifes, and portraits, Leibovitz reveals her unique associative thought process, blending iconic cultural markers with deeply personal imagery. Highlights include portraits of luminaries such as Amy Sherald and Ketanji Brown Jackson, alongside never-before-exhibited photographs, including a striking series captured at the historic Frick Collection. This exhibition is a testament to Leibovitz’s unparalleled ability to create a fluid visual narrative, balancing intimacy and universality in her timeless art.
18 Women: 50 Years
Until January 25th at Michael Rosenfeld
This dynamic group exhibition showcases over 40 works by 18 visionary artists, including Louise Nevelson, Alma Thomas, Betye Saar, and Ruth Asawa. Spanning five decades of artistic innovation (1918–1968), the exhibition features an array of mediums—from oil painting and ceramics to assemblage and textile art—highlighting the diversity and ingenuity of these trailblazing creators. Inspired by the spirit of Dorothy C. Miller’s influential MoMA exhibitions, 18 Women: 50 Years affirms the gallery’s commitment to amplifying women’s voices in modern art history. This compelling presentation not only celebrates individual achievements but also reframes the broader narrative of twentieth-century art, emphasizing the originality and resilience of women who broke barriers in a patriarchal art world.
Shifting Landscapes
Until January 2026 at The Whitney
Don’t miss this evocative exhibition that redefines the landscape genre by examining its intersections with political, ecological, and social challenges from the 1960s to today. Featuring works from the museum’s collection, the show delves into diverse themes, from ecofeminist land art and documentary photography to the chaotic energy of modern New York and the experimental filmmaking of 1970s Los Angeles. It also imagines fantastical realms where humans, animals, and the environment intertwine. By exploring industrialization's environmental toll, geopolitical borders, and the concept of a “natural” world, the exhibition invites viewers to reflect on how we shape—and are shaped by—the spaces we inhabit.
