Dorothy Dehner: A Retrospective, until June 22, 2024 at Berry Campbell.

Dorothy Dehner: A Retrospective showcases paintings, drawings, and sculptures by Dorothy Dehner (1901-1994). This retrospective intertwines the story of Dehner’s seventy-year artistic career starting in the 1930s. Dehner's work evolved, culminating in several large-scale monumental sculptures from the 1980s and 1990s. Her work has been exhibited at The Whitney Museum of American Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Museum of Modern Art.

This colorful work by Carroll Cloar captivated bidders and was a top trending lot in our Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center Benefit Auction. Cloar was an American artist known for his unique style and his paintings that capture the essence of Southern life, folklore, and culture, contributing to the regionalist movement in American art. The unique subject matter of this painting drew long time collectors and new buyers. Futbolista (1952) sold for $43,520 (inc. BP). The proceeds from this auction directly benefitted The Society of MSK.

Yrjö Edelmann was well represented with seven works in the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center Benefit Auction and wowed bidders with his hyper-realistic paintings. Magic Blue Paper was the subject of vigorous pre-bidding and became the focal point of an exhilarating bidding war during the live auction before eventually selling for $21,120 (inc. BP).

John Ferren's painting Eucalyptus was the jewel of our Post-War and Contemporary Art sale. Known for his impact on Abstract Expressionism, Ferren focused on vibrant colors, dynamic compositions, and expressive brushwork. This exceptional painting garnered lots of presale inquiries for additional photos and in-person viewings. Bidding took this beauty up to $39,680 (inc. BP).

Jovan Bijelić's Portrait of a Woman was another trending lot in our Post-War and Contemporary Art sale and was the subject of active pre-bidding. The large portrait sold for $28,160 (inc. BP).

Two of the top results from our Great Estates + sale came from the Estate of Eveline Hunt, including this George Hunzinger, Lollipop Chair which sold for $3,584 (inc. BP) and Art Nouveau Amphora Elephant Head Vase which sold for $2,176 (inc. BP). Hunt's taste, though primarily focused on 19th and early 20th-century art and furniture, knew no bounds. With an eclectic flair, she welcomed pieces from various genres and periods into her collection, creating a virtual museum within her grand prewar apartment in the Belnord. The Belnord also happens to be the apartment building featured in the hit Hulu show Only Murders in the Building. Both the chair and vase are regal statement pieces.
