Must-See Exhibits in the Neighborhood

Emma Webster: That Thought Might Think

Until April 12th at Petzel Gallery

This exhibition offers a mesmerizing exploration of landscape, technology, and the fragility of the natural world. Emma Webster's largest paintings to date, these immersive, panoramic works blend virtual reality, sculpture, and traditional painting techniques to create surreal, cinematic vistas that hover between genesis and apocalypse. With shifting light and ambiguous atmospheres, Webster challenges our perception of reality while reflecting on ecological crisis and resilience. A visit to this exhibition is not just a visual experience—it’s an invitation to step into a world where the boundaries between the natural and the artificial dissolve, leaving viewers to contemplate their place within it.

Sharon Core: Facsimile

Until April 12th at Yancey Richardson

This exhibition offers a thought-provoking exploration of authenticity, reproduction, and the evolving nature of image-making. By meticulously reinterpreting Irving Penn’s Flowers series through painting, Core challenges the boundaries between photography and painting, questioning the role of materiality in the digital age. Her hand-painted recreations and a beautifully crafted facsimile of Penn’s out-of-print book invite viewers to engage with images in a tactile, intimate way—an experience that cannot be replicated on a screen. This exhibition is a must-see for anyone interested in the intersections of art, technology, and the shifting meanings of representation.

Lyne Lapointe: Becoming Animal

Until April 12th at Jack Shainman Gallery

This exhibition is a powerful exploration of transformation, resilience, and the body’s relationship to its environment. Through a masterful use of unconventional materials—beehives, pearls, glass, and ink—Lapointe creates figures that transcend rigid identity, existing in states of flux between human, animal, and elemental forms. Her works blur the lines between painting, sculpture, and collage, inviting viewers to contemplate themes of gender, survival, and ecological interconnectedness. Thought-provoking and visually stunning, this exhibition is a must-see for those interested in art that challenges boundaries and reimagines the human.
