Auction Highlights

Detail of ink and color painting attributed to Li Sung

Capsule & Litchfield’s Asian art auctions occur approximately four times per year and feature art and objects from China, Japan, India, Korea, Vietnam, the Philippines, Myanmar, Taiwan, and Thailand. Ceramics, wood and jade carvings, bronzes, scroll paintings, woodblock prints, thangkas, textiles and carpets, and silver are just some of the items that have sold extremely well.

Highlights from China include Huanghuali and Zitan wood furniture, porcelain from the Ming and Qing dynasties as well as the Republic period, finely carved jade, wood, bronze, and iron statues, and also scroll paintings. Japanese Meiji period porcelains and bronze figures of animals and working people are highly sought after. Tibeten and Southeast Asian items with a Buddhist influence like fine Tibetan thangkas and gilt bronze figures of bodhisattvas are very popular.

Modern and contemporary Asian art sells extremely well in our fine art auctions. Artists that we have had the privilege to present include: Zao Wou-ki, Chen-chi, Chuan Cheng, Yang Yanping, Masayuki Nagare, Rakuko Naito, Satish Gujral, Natvar Bhavsar, Narayan Shridhar Bendre, Kim Heung-Sou, Vu Cao Dam, Le Pho, Romeo Tabuena, and Han Snel.
